I also often think of the selfless gifts that our children's birthmothers gave to us. Prior to our adoptions, we sat in a discussion panel with both adoptive mothers and birthmothers and the two things that we got out of hearing from the birthmother most was that it was love for her baby that allowed her to give him up to another family and how very important it was for her to receive pictures and letters from the family. She eagerly awaited them to come in the mail.

Now, as we watch our children grow I is so clear to me why. If I was on the other end of the process, I surely would be curious and would desire to see that this precious gift that I gave up was happy. Our family found http://www.TiesToMe.com. It is a great site for keeping in contact with our children's birthfamilies. While they rarely post anything, it is a great way for us to easily send pictures and letters... privately!

Thank you for your blog. It is refreshing to see an honest letter with honest emotions explaining how we are all just learning as we go. With letters like these on the internet it will surely help others on both sides of the adoption process.

Danielle -- really enjoyed reading your letter "A Letter to My Children’s Birthparents." By listening to the two Birthmothers at the panel I have even more of appreciation of what my birthmother went through. I thought this would come to me being a pregnant mother, but it actually came when hearing the stories and emotions of these two Birthmothers. Thank you for making this happen for me!
