I really enjoyed your good-natured essay about an often painful process. For eight years I seemed to be the only woman on earth who hadn't conceived. Both of our kids are the same race as my husband and I are, and I often discuss this with a friend whose family is transracial by adoption. A layer of her privacy is peeled back and exposed everytime they're in public, and they do get a lot of stares. Luckily it's often from people who are considering adoption or who have already adopted. Thanks for sharing this!

I can relate to this article but in a different way. Our adopted child looks like my husband and I. However I love being with adopted families. It's a joy to share our uniqueness and happiness that only comes from adopting a child. I assume this is similar to the unique joy of giving birth.

Anyhoo, I look to find adoptive families and as you mentioned in the article the only ones who are easy to spot in a crowd are the transracial famillies. I have to contain myself at times to keep from running over and saying, "Your children are adopted! So is mine!"

So for all you transracial families out there be kind to the smiling crazy woman who looks like she wants to charge your family. She just wants to be friends!
